  This detector is the best one I have purchased. It gives me the security I need when I commute to work. It has warned me in plenty of time. I have also used it when driving to Las Vegas….warned me of 8 traps on the way. Saved me from spending money on a tix…more money to play with in the casinos. If you want a radar that works..for the price, you can’t beat it.

  We purchased this item after the other Cobra Radar Detector quit working. This radar detector gives a lot of false negatives and picks up things that are not actually radars but it still works enough to let you know when a real cop is around. The main problem I have with this item is that the volume is very low, even when you have the volume as high as it will go and have the radio on you still have a problem hearing it. If you don’t listen to the radio very loud then you shouldn’t have any problems with it. However, if you do listen to the radio fairly loud you will have a problem hearing the radar detector when it starts beeping. So, with the false negatives and the low volume, I would recommend buying something alittle better, but if neither of these would be a problem for you then this is a nice cheap radar detector to serve the purpose.

  I have always had detectors and found this one at a very good price. I have had it for a couple of months and it has done it’s job four times. The Auto-Mute is a great feature, but I do agree that if you have your radio loud you will need to make sure to monitor your detector. Even the volume’s highest setting is not that loud. Overall I am very satisfied with the radar detector.

  This detector works very well and the automute is one of the nicest features that will take the volume down after several seconds when a signal was detected.
  Unfortunately, the loudest settings is still a bit low in volume when you listen to some loud music in your car.

  This is an outstanding product and best value for the buck of all radar detectors I have seen or heard about.
  The only con I saw so far is that it gets some false alarms. Nevertheless, better safe than sorry – all it does is respond to beams and frequencies. It does have a toggle button city/highway to mitigate significantly false alarms, yet when you are on the freeway, it better be on highway mode.
  Now to the good stuff: It has a sweet display, way better than even the high end detectors have!
  The GPS module is a genius idea. You’ll be surprised how many red-light cameras are out there that you are unaware of. AND EVEN if you are familiar with them, it turns out to be a great reminder and a wakeup call right and ahead of time.
  This toy has already saved me twice so it has already paid for itself!!! I’ve gotta tell you one very important thing readers, and I hope this will not be censored: Lately, if you’ve noticed, there is an increasing number of patrol officers PICKING ON PEOPLE TO GENERATE MORE REVENUE TO THE GOVERNMENT, WHO IS DEEP IN DEBT. So it’s not that I don’t drive safely – I DO. But it’s time we be ahead of the game here!
  It covers virtually every type of radar detection out there!
  It has a compass, it can show your car battery voltage power, it can display your speed and you can set a threshold speed after which you’ll get a warning. It can show you your GPS coordinates at all times. Beautiful easy to get interface to configure the device to your preferences. What more could you ask for?
  So you see, not only is it a fine radar detector – it is much more than that. No other radar detector even comes close feature-wise – and that’s where I see this product’s strength. I am extremely happy with this purchase.

  As an engineer I have done some repeatable tests and every time I got same results, hence this unit is reliable in my opinion. I was able to pick all traffic photo enforcement areas and radars in different states. Display of GPS coordinate is a cool feature when you need to let others know where you are at. The “small USB” based GPS antenna should be reinforced a little bit for more mechanical ruggedness. I am not using the octopus grip clips that comes with the kit. Again…. design problem, The grip, length & angle of metallic piece, total weight of the detector do not match and fells from wind shield after a few road bumps. It is not major thing, you can buy different mount or stand.

  Over all I am pleased with the product.

  I have found a couple of camera’s that this product did not show up. I plan on turning these in but how many more is out there that i don’t know about. I pass a THP one night and never got no signal warning but there is always that chance that he wasn’t running radar. More time will tell before i take off and se it on a trip.

  I have used this radio for several months now and am very happy with it. It gets out well and receives well and has good sound. It is small and compact so it does not take up a lot of room. Great buy for the money.

  It’s a decent unit, and cobra is a great company, but there is much better. The midland 1001z is much better built and has much better sound quality and features.

  That being said, here’s why this radio gets three stars. My main issue is the new digital setup on this radio. It pops as signals come in and out of the squelch range. This gets very annoying when you want to just cut out the white noise and hear as much as you can. If someone is right on the border of your signal range, they will pop as they cut in and out, where as other radios will feather in and out, or hold the signal until they quit transmitting. The previous generation of this radio (with the separate LED lights for the meter) was MUCH better in this regard. If you must have a cobra, look for that version, or go to another model. Cobra just went too cheap on this one, but you still pay a premium for the name. All the components feel needlessly light compared to the competition, and also compared to older cobra’s themselves. The one missing feature that others have is the RF gain. Very handy and doesn’t seem like it’d be much trouble for them to add it, but they reserve that for their expensive radios.

  Again, on it’s own, this is a good radio, but when you look at it side by side with it’s cheaper priced competition, the choice is easy.

  This is the first and only CB I have ever owned. It was the most economical and compact. I enjoy the PA function as well as being able to communicate with truckers about traffic.
